HRT and Why Transitioning is Not ‘One-Size-Fits-all’ on ‘The Trans Agenda’
Let it be known: transitioning is not ‘one-size-fits-all.’ The road to self-discovery and authentic living is a full-fledged journey. This roller coaster ride of hormone replacement therapy, legal name changes, and surgical intervention is not for the faint of heart.
Trying to navigate the ins and outs of a medical system that often fails to service queer-identifying individuals is a real doozy. Actually...fuck a doozy; it’s an extreme headache! However, it can be super rewarding in the end. Transitioning takes the pain of growing up an outcast and transforms it into the strength it takes to be a functioning member of society.
Gender/sex changes are not a *requirement* of being trans, of course. It is risky to be an out trans person, let alone publicly express yourself through body and appearance. But the desire to be able to look in the mirror and see--on the outside--how you feel on the outside, is real. Whether transitioning is an option for you or not, always be safe, vigilant, and do your research.
Life is hard. Life as a mid-transition trans woman of color is even harder. Watch as Culture Editor Iv Fischer discusses the multifaceted experience of transitioning from one gender to another.
