Michelle Williams Serves Fosse, Fosse, Fosse, in new FX Show

FX knows what the gays want.

During a relatively uneventful Golden Globes night, FX quietly slipped in something that melted the ice-cold heart shells of theater queers everywhere: a teaser trailer for the upcoming limited-series Fosse/Verdon, starring Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams in the titular roles.

The series is based on the biography Fosse by Sam Wasson and reunites director Thomas Kail and musical juggernaut, Lin-Manuel Miranda, (have y’all heard of Hamilton?) as executive producer.

Williams stars as Gwen Verdon, known as one of the greatest Broadway dancers of all time and originator of the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. Verdon’s second husband, the great Bob Fosse, was also her longtime creative partner. The two worked together on iconic musicals like Sweet Charity, Chicago, and the movie All That Jazz (for which Fosse won the Academy Award for Best Director in 1980).

The teaser gives us a few glimpses of the high production musical numbers, dazzling sets and costumes. I can think of nothing more exciting than seeing Michelle Williams float across the screen in a Bob Fosse dance number.  It’s going to be a wild eight episodes, but we’ll have to wait until April for all the glamour, melodrama, jazz and liquor.

Until then, brush up on your Fosse by watching All That Jazz, an autobiographical musical film about his life and career.
