There is no doubt that the popularity of FX’s POSE has brought greater attention to underground ballroom communities. Younger generations that may have never heard of iconic documentaries like Paris is Burning or The Queen were introduced to a whole new herstory of the NYC ballroom scene. But don’t mistake—Atlanta’s ballroom scene has always been alive and thriving.

On Friday, November 9th, Red Bull Music partnered with Atlanta collectives Southern Fried Queer Pride and MORPH to create the ATL is Burning Ball—a night mixing ballroom, live music, and dance at the Georgia Freight Depot. Hosted by Precious Ebony, the night also included performances by Leikeli47, MikeQ, Cakes da Killa, Byrell the Great, Divoli S'vere, and Ripparachie.

Surprise guest attendees included Amiyah Scott (STAR) and Ryan Jamaal Swain (POSE).

Photographer Jesse Pratt López was on hand to photograph the evening.
